The Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race is delighted to once again partner with Air North, Yukon's Airline, for the 2013 QuestFest.
Air North returns as the official airline of the Yukon Quest, providing flights between Whitehorse and Dawson City for race officials and veterinarians during the race, seats on flights for staff and officials the rest of the year, and flights to assist with the Quest's fund-raising efforts.
Running Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, QuestFest will be held at the Old Fire Hall in downtown Whitehorse. With the Yukon Quest celebrating 30 years of racing, this year's QuestFest will be very special.
The festival will feature film screenings, merchandise, special presentations, race information, volunteer sign-up, and an opportunity to purchase raffle and banquet tickets.
New this year, the Family Literacy Centre is organizing a short story competition in conjunction with QuestFest. Children ages nine to 13 are invited to submit a fictional short story on the Yukon Quest.
Each winner chosen will receive three tickets to the Mushers Banquet on January 31 鈥 with the opportunity to sit with the musher of their choice 鈥 a poster signed by all mushers, and a special gift package.
"Participating in an event that has captured the imaginations of people around the world is very exciting for us,鈥 said Josh Clark, director of commercial development at Air North. "It's all part of our Yukon Spirit in Action program, which is designed to promote healthy and vibrant communities throughout the Yukon.鈥
"This event would not be possible without the support of our community sponsors, and Air North, Yukon's Airline has once again stepped up to the plate,鈥 said Marie Belanger, Yukon Quest Executive Director 鈥 Yukon.
"The flights they are providing will ensure that the necessary people are in place both prior to and throughout the running of the Yukon Quest, which is crucial to the success of the race.
"Partnering with them on a community-oriented event such as QuestFest helps us increase not only the awareness, but the quality and number of activities offered, so that everyone can take part.鈥
