While admitting he felt "disillusioned” entering the Yukon capital yesterday, 58-year-old runner Steve Petrucci continues to press on in his goal to run across two continents.

The long-distance runner is hoping to run 22,530 kms from Alaska to Argentina to raise money for Doctors Without Borders.

The Seattle native began his journey – known as the RoadsEnd Run – on May 5 in Deadhorse, Alaska.

Petrucci entered Whitehorse yesterday afternoon at about 2:30.

Local coach Don White provided him a warm Yukon welcome, running alongside him for 13 km.

Petrucci chatted briefly with a reporter while running, saying he had no plans to stop in the city.

He admitted his run has fallen behind schedule, and he no longer knows if he will arrive in Argentina before the region welcomes its winter season.

Petrucci is travelling with a support vehicle, running an average of 56 kms per day.

The runner has encountered his share of hardships along the way, including blisters on his feet, a lost tooth, and being chased by a black bear along the highway on Monday.

Petrucci said he stumbled along the large bear in the ditch. The animal subsequently loped after him, before the runner was able to shuttle around it with the help of a passing car.

The run, which Petrucci said is dedicated to his father, is expected to wrap up some time next year in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Anyone looking to donate funds or follow along the journey can do so via Petrucci's website roadsendrun.org or via Facebook at facebook.com/roadsendrun.
