The Yukon government worked with CTV and the show鈥檚 producers to feature the territory in this season, following the Yukon鈥檚 successful race debut last season.
Tourism Yukon鈥檚 Denny Kobayashi said the total investment from the government was $420,000. Much of those funds will go towards more than 50 commercial spots promoting the territory on several popular television shows between August 4 and 18.
A social media campaign also received funding and will roll out shortly after the episode airs. More than $150,000 was spent on episode production support.
鈥淭he impact of last year鈥檚 The Amazing Race Canada was significant in raising the profile of Canada鈥檚 North and Yukon in particular,鈥 Minister of Tourism and Culture Mike Nixon said in a press release.
鈥淩atings were exceptional and well above what we expected, and by working with CTV again this season, we will continue to increase awareness of the territory as a world class destination across Canada.鈥
The Amazing Race Canada airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT this summer on CTV and CTV GO.
The program will feature commercials that promote Yukon as a tourism destination to millions of Canadians.
鈥淵ukon was a favourite among last year鈥檚 contestants, including the winners Tim Hague Sr. and Tim Hague Jr., who said it was the most beautiful place they visited,鈥 Nixon said.
鈥淭hat type of endorsement, together with a large television audience, help to build a demand for what we have to offer to our largest market 鈥 which is other Canadians.鈥
The 2013 episode of The Amazing Race set in Yukon drew 3.15 million viewers.
Heading into next week鈥檚 episode, Olympic hockey players Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson continue to hold the race lead.
