Athletics Yukon is hosting its second annual Athletics Expo at the Old Fire Hall on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Representatives from local organizations will be on hand to talk about upcoming running and walking events and how to get involved.

"We hosted this event for the first time last year and it was a resounding success,鈥 said Tanya Astika, president of Athletics Yukon. "It is the perfect way to kick off the summer running and walking season.鈥

The expo will include running workshops, advice on barefoot / minimalist running, the latest in footwear and gear from Coast Mountain Sports, Sportslife, Intersport and the Studio, advice from a local physiotherapist, a talk on active commuting and great draw prizes including running shoes and a pair of Vibram Five Fingers.

You do not need to be an Athletics Yukon member to attend the expo although it is a great chance to pick up your membership for the year.

A variety of workshops will also be available, and local athletes are encouraged to join top local coach Don White for valuable advice on fueling, gait, footwear and how to establish and maximize your training regime.

Three sessions will take place 鈥 Beginning (5 to 6 p.m.); Getting Better (6 to 7); and Getting Faster (7 to 8).

Representatives will also be on hand from a variety of local running and walking groups.

Athletics Yukon promotes, coordinates and administers the sports of road racing, cross-country running, track and field, race walking and snow shoeing.
