The Whitehorse Glacier Bears swim team continues to make strides – most recently at the AA Long Course Championships in Victoria, B.C.
Six swimmers attended the meet alongside coach Stephanie Dixon.
Swim brothers Luke and Thomas Bakica were the local stars, with older brother Luke picking up three fourth-place finishes (200 IM, 200 breast, 400 free) and Thomas nabbing a silver in the 200 IM and two bronze medals in the 100 and 200 breast.
"It was a really successful meet,” Dixon said. "It really couldn't have gone better.”
For Aidan Harvey, Hannah Kingscote, and Brooklyn Massie, last weekend's swims at the Saanich Commonwealth Place marked their first competition at AAs.
Harvey swam to a bronze medal in the 200 back, and also cracked the final eight in both the 100 back and 200 IM.
Dixon called Harvey's third-place finish "the swim of the meet.”
Both Kingscote and Massie swam well enough to earn berths in final swims, with Kingscote finishing eighth in the 100 fly and Massie sixth and eighth in the 200 and 100 free, respectively.
"That was really, really exciting,” Dixon said. "They did a great job.”
Taylor Harvey also competed, with her best finish was coming in 10th the 100 fly. She played a great leadership role with her younger teammates.
While many of her swimmers were competing against older swimmers, Dixon said it wasn't noticeable.
"What they lack in size, they definitely made up for in determination,” she said. "I thought it would be a meet for them for experience and to learn the mental preparation for a big meet, but they just got that all down pat and they were there to be competitive. It really was impressive to me.”

Another job well done Glacier Bears! Congratulations to the six swimmers in attendance and the great team spirit you show other swim clubs. Good work Coach Dixon.
