Boston Pizza 2-0 after first weekend of rec playoffs

The Northern Cross Midget Mustangs came out flying in their first Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League playoff game Sunday, opening up a 2-0 lead early in the second period and hanging on for a 4-2 victory over the Yukon Appliance Blues.

The Northern Cross Midget Mustangs came out flying in their first Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League playoff game Sunday, opening up a 2-0 lead early in the second period and hanging on for a 4-2 victory over the Yukon Appliance Blues.

Kane Dawe collected a goal and two assists for the Mustangs while Robbie Stuckey chipped in a goal and an assist. Ted Stephens and Glen Skookum also bulged the twine while Taylor Pasloski picked up a pair of assists. Alex McDougall and Daniel Cletheroe each finished with one helper.

Joe Martin and Jeff Monkman provided the offence for the Blues, assisted by Curtis Goodman and Tyler Plaunt.

In the other rec playoff games Sunday, it was:

Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad 11

Air North Jets 0

Mike Young recorded a hat trick and added an assist for Boston Pizza/Yukon RAD, as his team blanked the Air North Jets.

Trevor Twardochleb added a pair of goals and a pair of assists for Yukon RAD while Bryan Curial contributed two goals and one helper. Barry Blisner, Lance Brown and James Edzerza each netted a goal and an assist while Dean Mastrangelo also found the back of the net. Ed Peart was credited with three assists while Jay Massie had two assists.

Brian Power recorded the shutout in goal.

Sports North 3

Kluane Drillers 2

Scoring came from all corners for Sports North, as they snuck past the Kluane Drillers.

Derrick Hynes, Linus Fraser and Colin Dawe supplied the goals for Sports North, with an assist going to Dale Kulych.

Mark Daniels scored both goals for the Drillers, assisted by Bud Arnold, Craig Hampton and Pat Anderson.

Environmental Dynamics 6

Alkan Air/Envirolube 5

Justin Halowaty led Envrionmental Dynamics with three goals and an assist, as his team edged Alkan Air/Envirolube.

Pat Tobler tacked on a pair of goals and an assist for EDI while Dave Richard also lit the lamp. Allain Desrochers grabbed two assists while Marc Champagne, Andy Connors and Doug Cote each had one helper.

Ron Limoges and Leroy Wolfe potted two goals apiece for Alkan. Russ Mummert also scored while Peter Mostyn claimed two assists and Allan Hansen and Duan Biblow each finished with one assist.

Yukon Appliance Blues 8

Cinderwood Canucks 7

The Cinderwood Canucks made it close, notching a goal with just over one minute remaining in regulation, but it wasn't enough to top the Yukon Appliance Blues.

Jakub Jirousek picked up a pair of goals and a pair of assists for the Blues while Joe Martin added two goals and one helper. Spencer Tomlin and Cary Goodman each chipped in a goal and four assists while Ryan Martin collected a goal and one assist. Jeff Monkman also found the back of the net while Curtis Goodman and Dan Girouard were each credited with an assist.

Aaron Pettitt recorded a hat trick for the Canucks while Jay Glass claimed a goal and two assists. Jeff O'Farrell, Martin Lawrie and Kirk Gale each tacked on a goal and an assist while Mark King was awarded three assists. Curt Campbell and Mike L'Henaff each had one helper.

Southern Tutchone Storm 0

Boston Pizza claimed victory over the Southern Tutchone Storm by default.

Game 7 Sports 11

Narrow Gauge Contracting 5

Ben Cole led Game 7 Sports with a pair of goals and three assists, as his team destroyed Narrow Gauge Contracting.

Dan Johnson and Mike Beauchamp each added two goals and one helper while Jason Ruttle also potted a pair of markers. Danny Crawford chipped in a goal and two assists while Kristian King and Mike Wilson also hit the twine.

Adrian Bergman replied for Narrow Gauge with a pair of goals and an assist. Yves Paradis, Milo Jordan and Phillip Harry also scored while Byron Gilday and Chris Harry picked up assists.

Sports North 11

Alwarid & Associates 2

Terry Slonski had a big game for Sports North, posting three goals and two assists, as they crushed Alwarid & Associates.

Linus Fraser tacked on a goal and four assists for Sports North while Dale Kulych and Rick Olson notched two goals apiece. Mike O'Connor finished with a goal and an assist while Derick Bilodeau and Dustin Slonski also lit the lamp. Richard Graham grabbed a pair of assists while Colin Dawe and Mitch Malchow each had one helper.

Brad Holm and Jake Hansen provided the offence for A&A, assisted by Matt Ordish and Tyson Hawkins.

Kluane Drillers 11

Alkan Air/Envirolube 0

Scoring came from all corners for the Kluane Drillers as they demolished Alkan Air/Envirolube.

Edwin Vanderkley led the offensive charge for the Drillers, netting three goals and three assists. Mark Daniels added three goals and two assists while Adam O'Dell claimed a goal and four helpers. Tyler Murray potted a pair of goals while Matt Gamble contributed a goal and two assists. Doug Roberts had a goal and one assist while Bud Arnold was credited with two assists. Rob Pitzel, Pat Anderson, Daniel Murray and Craig Hampton each had one helper.

Matt King recorded the shutout in net.

Sports North 7

Game 7 Sports 5

It was a complete team effort for Sports North as they prevailed over Game 7 Sports.

Ken Olson, Terry Slonski and Rick Olson each chipped in a goal and two assists for Sports North while Dustin Slonski and Derrick Bilodeau collected two goals apiece. Dale Kulych and Rob Hill were each awarded two assists while Richard Graham and Mike O'Connor each finished with one helper.

Danny Crawford replied for Game 7 with a goal and an assist. Dan Johnson added a goal and an assist while Mike Wilson, Jordan Holloway and Mike Beauchamp also bulged the twine. Single assists went to Josh Clark and Kristian King.
