Twenty-nine games scheduled over three days

The cooler temperatures outside have signalled the start of another sport season.

Starting tonight through Saturday, the Yukon Broomball Association will be hosting its season-opening tournament.

Thursday and Friday evening after 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Saturday, the Bob Park Icebreaker Opening Tournament will take over the ice at Takhini Arena.

Broomball, played on an ice surface, but without skates is a non-contact sport.

The league is co-ed, so two of the five players on the ice (not including the goalie) must be women.

Eight teams are registered for the opening tournament: Yukon Thunder, 202 Saloon Shooters, Ridge Pub, P&M鈥圧ecycling Crushers, Yukon Brewing, Capital Towing, NNDDC鈥圢acho and Red/Green.

Opening faceoff is at 6 p.m. tonight with P&M鈥圧ecycling taking on the 202 Saloon Shooters.

Nearly 30 games will be played during the tournament, with the top two teams duking it out for the title Saturday at 9 p.m.

During Saturday鈥檚 games the Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association will be serving cold drinks in the mezzanine section.
