"The biggest little race in Yukon鈥� will include three race distances and an awards ceremony.
The 30-mile skijor and sled dog race will begin at 11 a.m., the 10-mile mushing race at noon, and the six-mile skijor race at 1:30. Registration will take place Saturday.
The race, based at the Mt. Lorne Community Centre with a route that winds through the Watson River Valley, averages between 30 and 40 participants per year. Last year, more than 50 teams hit the trail.
Mushers and skijorers range in both age and experience.
"This race started as a community fun race and that's what it still is,鈥� race coordinator Agnes Seitz said yesterday.
Seitz said the extended warm temperatures in southern Yukon may cause organizers to rethink the route around Annie Lake in future years, but for this year, the trails remain "pretty good.鈥�
Last year's race saw temperatures dip below -24 Celsius.
Musher Martine LeLevier is the defending champion, winning last year's 30-mile race in a time of 2:46:51.
