More than $80,000 was raised this past weekend at the Yukon Hospital Foundation's Fourth Annual Skookum Asphalt Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament at Mountain View Golf Club.
Through rain, sun and more rain, 115 players from Yukon, British Columbia and Alberta, 20 professional golfers from the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association (CPGA) and dozens of volunteers enjoyed a day of great golf, great food, and a bit of competition.
Team PNW Group 鈥 Sheldon King, Shayne King and Blaine Tessier with professional Ethan Danish 鈥 won the team prize with Howie Firth, Bill Whitty, Craig Tuton and Scott Shephard taking second. Both foursomes shot a 61, with PNW Group taking top prize by retrogression.
Chris Toth from Alberta's Stony Plain Golf Course took top prize from amongst the professionals, shooting 67 and 69.
Kent Fukushima of the PGA Tour of Canada took second with a 67 and 73.
In third place was Danish, the tournament's defending champ from Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy. He shot 71 and 73.
Local pro Jeff Wiggins shared fourth with Sam Young of Riverside Golf Club and Michael Haraguchi from Capilano Golf and Country Club.
"We want to thank the signature sponsor, Skookum Asphalt for their ongoing support, as well as all of the day's sponsors,鈥 said Foundation president Krista Prochazka.
"We are so grateful to the companies that come forward to sponsor the event, to donate auction items and to everyone that comes out to participate that day. Because of them we are able to invest in equipment that will keep more Yukoners in Yukon, and will enhance quality care and diagnosis.鈥
The Yukon Hospital Foundation was established in 2005 to support quality health care in the territory. The Foundation invests in equipment that will enhance health care capacity in Yukon, and has recently completed a campaign to raise $2 million in support of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine for the Whitehorse General Hospital.
"The generosity of all the sponsors and those that participated in the live and silent auctions was terrific,鈥 said Chris Simons, Skookum division manager. "Skookum Asphalt looks forward to sponsoring next year's event.鈥
