The Yukon Boxing Club is kicking off it鈥檚 season and the head coach says all are welcome.

Jess Staffen said they fired up last week with their first workout and they鈥檒l be continuing right through until the end of May.

Those who might be thinking of trying out boxing and exercising 鈥 really exercising 鈥 their cardiovascular system should just come out, he said.

Staffen said there鈥檚 no need to feel intimidated or anything like that.

鈥淛ust come on out,鈥 said the head coach. 鈥淏e ready to work, and you probably are going to be sore after. But don鈥檛 be deterred by what you see in the movies. Safety is our number one priority.

鈥淥ur doors, our athletes, are always open to new boxers. It鈥檚 a friendly place.鈥

Staffen said their club membership was at about 50 boxers last year 鈥 half men and half women.

There were about 26 at Wednesday鈥檚 workout, on a 50-50 split.

He said they鈥檙e hoping to bring a couple of boxers to the Canadian national championships in Victoria next summer.

The club trains at Peak Fitness every Monday and Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30.

Staffen pointed out TSN did a comparison of difficulty between different sports and they found boxing to be number one.

鈥淚f anybody is feeling a intimidated, I encourage them not to be, and come and give it a shot.鈥
