Correction

Ooops .........

By Whitehorse Star on February 15, 2013

Ooops .........

The Star incorrectly reported this week that had the Sarah Koltun team defeated Quebec in last Friday's tiebreaker at the junior curling championships in Fort McMurray, it would have been the first Yukon rink to reach the medal round at the national juniors.

The Star has been reminded, however, that 26 years ago, back in 1988, the Yukon rink of skip Michele Cowan, Dawn Nolan, Shea MacKenzie and Dawn Moses finished with bronze medal honours.

And just for the record, after finishing in a five-way tie for first place at the junior men's championships in 1993, the Yukon representative from Atlin was awarded third after a series of tiebreakers. The rink consisted of skip Bob Smallwood, Allen Shaw, Alfred Feldman and Scott

Odian. Smallwood and his wife Jody Smallwood will be representing the Yukon at next month's first-ever national mixed-double championships in Leduc, Alta.

Yukonguy -- I guess I should clarify a little. Yes, it's great that the Whitehorse Star made the correction.

I guess I am just referring to the whole story (the first part that is being corrected). The truth is that Sarah Koltun's team did set a record. They are the highest the Yukon has been at this event since the Yukon got separate entry to the junior nationals. Previous to that, it was a combined Territories team. So yes, in fact a Yukon team has placed higher, but these girls should also be given some credit also for their hard work.

Anyways...no battles. Nothing epic. Just stating that record or not, these girls did well and should be given some credit. And congratulations to all in the past that did well.

Why can't these girls just be given credit where credit it due? It is true that there have been higher finishes at the national level but the current record is based on since the Yukon was given separate entry to this event. Maybe I should complain because I was on the team that had the last highest record?!

These girls have worked very hard and should be given credit for the current record.
