Local cyclists have survived the zombie apocalypse.

Competing in the first 鈥楧awn of the Tread' event over the weekend, 32 cyclists were on the trail near Selkirk School.

The cyclocross race challenged the field to complete as many laps of the course as possible within 50 minutes.

Leading the way was Jonah Clark.

Billed as the last event of the season for the Contagious Mountain Biking Club (CMBC), the field was a mix of ages and skill levels.

"It was a fun event to wrap up the season,鈥 said Sierra van der Meer of CMBC.

"People had a lot of fun and we had a lot of different people come out. We had people who full on raced it and people who dressed up and came for the zombie factor and came for the fun of it.鈥

The course featured a mix of natural obstacles as well as zombie bodies (clothes stuffed with newspaper).

Open to all frames, the race featured a mix of road racers, cruisers, racing and mountain bikes.

Clark showed up to the race directly from work and never looked back, flying out from the starting line and maintaining his lead throughout.

He was followed closely by other local riders Thomas Tetz, Massey Baker and Ross Phillips.

"They were all throwing down laps,鈥 said van der Meer.

The event was part of the international cyclocross series, with CMBC joining forces with Sockeye Cycle Co. in Skagway.

Sockeye hosted their third annual cyclocross race in Dyea on August 26 and CMBC countered with Dawn of the Tread.

The local club will now pack it up for the season, but could be back on the trails in the winter with riders competing on winterized and fat tire bikes

"That's it for the dirt season,鈥 said van deer Mer

"But we'll be back out once the snow flies.鈥
