Forty per cent of last weekend鈥檚 available gold was scooped up by Klondike soccer players last weekend.
Dawson City-based teams took victory in two of five divisions at the 2016 Northwestel Yukon Indoor Soccer Championships, held at the Canada Games Centre.
Whitehorse teams earned the remaining three titles.
鈥淒awson has always had a very good program,鈥 said Whitehorse Minor Soccer president Grant Zazula.
鈥淭he people that organize it 鈥 Johnny Nunan and Irwin Gaw 鈥 they鈥檙e longtime soccer people in the territory and they put on a really good program.
鈥淭hey do pretty well every year at the Yukon championship events. Obviously, they鈥檙e doing something right in Dawson.鈥
Zazula noted that one of the territory鈥檚 top young players 鈥 Callum Wood Ryan, is a Dawson product.
Wood Ryan was selected to join Real Salt Lake鈥檚 academy squad in Arizona, where he has spent the last two seasons.
Zazula said Yukon championship competition is very meaningful for players from the communities.
鈥淭hey get to come and play against the big city,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hey get really ramped up for it and take it pretty seriously. And it鈥檚 great when they can go home with medals and build on that.鈥
