After a disappointing season, Fastball Yukon has decided to call it quits.
The league had hopes of expanding from four teams to five before the season started but eventually ended up reducing the number of teams in the league to three in mid-July.
They also reduced their schedule from four games a week to two.
The hope was that the contraction would allow each team to have multiple pitchers and spread the talent around evenly.
Despite the changes, the league was still unable to get the attendance rates high enough to host a proper game.
The cancellation comes just as the season was beginning to wrap up and prepare for the playoffs on Aug. 10 and 11.
The 2011 season was a success for the league and hopes were high that they would be able to bring some younger talent to field to stabilize it and allow it to grow.
"We still haven't been able to put a game together despite contracting teams, Dan Johnson wrote in an email.
"At this point the executive has decided to discontinue the rest of the season including the year-end playoffs. There are big costs associated with it and we aren't going to be able to cover these as it is. For those who helped out, thanks and for those who were there all the time sorry we couldn't make it happen. Maybe next year.鈥
