The ISF Women's World Championships are now over but high caliber baseball action can still be seen in Whitehorse.
Fastball Yukon has decided to move forward with their plans for league contraction, reducing the number of active teams in the league to three.
The league will debut two of their new line-ups tonight at 7 p.m. with the Cinderwood Hitmen taking on the Royal Flush Jays.
The league has also reduced their schedule from four games a week to two.
Josh Clark, treasurer with Fastball Yukon, said the changes are good for the health of the league and for the competitiveness on the field.
"It puts additional pitchers on each team so they can play a full game and rotate through their line-up, keeping it fresh the whole game,鈥 he said.
"It should make it a little more competitive and it will make sure everyone gets playing time,鈥 he said.
"It should also build up the league and hopefully stabilize it.鈥
Prior to the changes, the teams were playing timed games on Tuesday and Thursday nights, beginning at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
The new changes will allow the league to play full seven inning games without having to worry about a time limit.
The odd team out is the Roadhouse Pirates.
The Pirates were struggling to begin the season, posting a 1-5 record while collecting 31 runs but giving up 50 the their opposition.
A second Roadhouse team, the Giants, was a different story.
The Giants have been a force in the league with a 4-1-1 record.
Their defence has been superb, giving up only 24 runs while they've been able to bring 50 across the plate.
With the line-ups now shuffled throughout the three teams, Clark said he's looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out.
"We just had some amazing ball in Whitehorse so hopefully people will be looking to come out and play,鈥 he said.
"It's decent ball, we've got some strong pitching and some good hitters so it's a fun game to watch.鈥
The league will host their season ending tournament on Aug. 10 and 11 at the Pepsi Softball Complex.
Clark said he's hopeful that some fans will be able to take in the action.
"We encourage everybody to come out and watch the tournament, have a burger and enjoy some ball.鈥
In the meantime, the league will continue to play Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at the Pepsi Softball Complex.
