The Whitehorse Female Mustangs didn鈥檛 get any help from the referees en route to an 0-4 record in Calgary last weekend.
Playing in the Tier 2 Midget level at the Wickenheiser Female World Hockey Festival, the local club lost all four of its round robin games and lost two 麻豆社区players to injury.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 usually criticize the refereeing, but this past weekend it was one-sided,鈥 head coach Louis Bouchard told the Star.
鈥淭he two injuries were the results of hits that went unpunished, whereas any time we skated near a falling opposition player, we got a penalty.鈥
Whitehorse dropped games to the N.W.T. 6-0, Fort. Saskatchewan 6-2, Airdrie 4-3 and the EG712 Shock 1-0 Nov. 28 and 29. Goal scorers were Maddie Nicholson (3), Mikaila Blanchard, and Sophie Janke.
Gameplay was faster and rougher than what the girls are used to, said Bouchard, but the young Mustangs quickly learned to adjust to the speed of play.
Goaltender Maya Oakley was also sharp, stopping 37 shots in the final game to give the Mustangs a chance.
鈥淲e were very happy with the results, even though we lost all games,鈥 said Bouchard. 鈥淲e now know what we need to do to get ready for Prince George.鈥
With the Canada Winter Games on the horizon, the club will be training with a skating coach, and hope to organize an exhibition series with their Fairbanks rivals.
