A pair of Yukon figure skaters tested their new season programs in B.C. last weekend.

Mikayla Kramer, skating in the novice ladies category this year, had two new skates to perform at the Super Series B.C. Summer Skate in Burnaby, B.C.

There were two groups of novice skaters at the competition. Kramer鈥檚 programs were good enough for first in the short and fourth in the free, to score her third overall in her group.

Rachel Pettitt, 17, also moved up categories, skating in the senior women鈥檚 class.

Pettitt, who has been struggling with low iron levels this summer, skated only her short routine.

Pettitt, who is spending a bit of time at home in Whitehorse 鈥� she trains and lives in Kelowna 鈥� said that she had a good competition.

鈥淚 wanted to go out and feel confident in what I can do,鈥� she said.

Though her short program is mostly the same as last year, she has added some difficulty to the routine and has added one more triple jump, for a total of two in the short.

She also has a new dress. 鈥淲hich is always nice,鈥� she said with a laugh.

The weekend meet in B.C. was her first since May.鈥圫he has been attending it for about a decade.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a really good summer competition to check where your training has been,鈥� she said.

And a good opportunity to show off what the skaters have been working on all summer.

Since she hasn鈥檛 competed this summer, she said, 鈥淚t was nice to just get back out and start competing again.鈥�

Her next competition will be the 2016 Super Series Autumn Leaves in Kamloops late in October.
