Former Yukon Quest champion Sebastian Schnuelle will be the race marshal of the 2013 Yukon Quest 300.

Schnuelle was chosen to the position by Yukon Quest race marshal Doug Grilliot.

Schnuelle brings seven years of experience as a Yukon Quest musher, as well as five years as a competitor in the Iditarod.

His best year was 2009, when he won the Quest and finished second in the Iditarod.

The YQ300 race marshal is in charge of all aspects of the race.

Along with a team of race judges on the trail, the race marshal will ensure a fair and competitive race. Schnuelle will also work closely with the veterinarians to care for the health and safety of all dogs competing in the race.

A total of 24 mushers signed up for this year's YQ300, which starts at 3 p.m. on February 2nd in Whitehorse, Yukon.

The sled dog race is for mushers interested in experiencing some of the Yukon Quest trail. The YQ300 is a recognized 300-mile qualifying race for both the Quest and the Iditarod.

The Quest recently announced that their official photography team will include two new men behind the camera lens.

Alistair Maitland and Patrick Kane have been hired to capture the historic scenery and behind-the-scenes action along the 1,000-mile trail.

Both have extensive experience. Kane is the former staff photographer for Up Here Magazine, while Maitland specializes in editorial and event photography.
