Skiers will be able to enjoy all the amenities of the Whitehorse Cross-Country Ski Club – including 85 kilometres of groomed trails – free of charge this Saturday.

The ever-popular Coast Mountain Sports Free Ski Day includes access to the club's sauna, showers, waxing benches and coffee bar, as well as free maple syrup taffy trailside at Harvey's Hut, courtesy of the Association franco-yukonnaise.

The Yukon Elite Squad, sponsored by Air North, will be on hand at the stadium with wax advice and cookies.

Ski rentals are half price, but are recommended to be booked in advance.

Next Tuesday, young skiers are invited to take part in another Tim Hortons Ski'll Fest from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the ski stadium.

The ski club will be transformed into the World Cup of Skiing ‘Yukon style' for the evening.

Skiers age seven and up are invited to join in the fun that will include relays, games, music and food. Each athlete will represent an assigned country when they ski – Russia, Norway, Sweden, America or Canada.

Skate skis are required, as are smiles and a keen spirit, but ski poles are not needed.

To register for the free Ski'lls Fest, contact Jan Downing at 633-2111 or jandowning@northwestel.net. Athletes will meet in front of the wax room at 4:30 p.m.
