David Gonda and Tamara Goeppel have been named the leaders of the Yukon's mountain bike royal family.

Gonda was crowned King of the Canyon, and Goeppel took Queen honours after placing first in the long course categories at the Yukon Mountain Bike Championships held Sunday in Whitehorse.

Short course winners Finn Matrishon and Jenn Roberts were crowned Prince and Princess of the Canyon, respectively.

Roberts win was the closest on the day, as she crossed the finish line just one second ahead of Julie DesBrisay.

The 2013 winners marked a complete turnover in the royal court.

Last year's winners included Jonah Clark, Meagan Wilson, Mark Nelson and Christine Kirk.

The race routes were the same as last year, starting at the Schwatka Lake boat launch. The 48-km long course featured two major climbs while the 27.5-km short course featured one.

Thirty-two bikers competed in this year's championships.

The races mark the end of the competitive mountain biking season, with cooler weather looming on the horizon.
