Fifteen art, sport and recreation organizations are sharing almost $123,000 in funding from the Yukon Lottery Commission's Recreational Projects Program. The moves were announced yesterday morning.
"I thank the commission for their continued support of organizations that contribute so much to the quality of life in our communities,鈥 Brad Cathers, minister responsible for the Yukon Lottery Commission, said in a press release.
The Recreational Projects Program provides funding assistance to sustain and contribute to the growth of amateur level sports, physical fitness and recreation activities and the performing, visual and literary arts.
The Yukon Freestyle Ski Association is one of the recipients, receiving $33,348.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the commission's approval of our summer ramp project,鈥 association president Lynda Harlow said.
"This will revolutionize our training facility and provide year-round training in Yukon for freestyle athletes, rather than having to travel elsewhere during the off-season or summer months. We can hardly wait to get this project started.鈥
