Partnerships between the Government of Yukon, Yukon Lottery Commission and Sport Canada have made more than $1.3 million in grants available to Yukon's sport and recreation community.

"Sport and recreation organizations, our athletes, coaches and officials contribute tremendously to building healthy and vibrant communities throughout Yukon,鈥 Minister of Community Services Brad Cathers said in a press release. "I am pleased to announce our continued funding to these groups and individuals.鈥

This year, 26 different sport organizations will receive financial support through the Yukon Sport 4 Life program.

The High Performance program will fund 34 individual officials and athletes and the Elite Athlete Program will invest in five Yukon athletes who have been identified by national sport organizations.

"Thanks to these annual grants, there are great opportunities in Yukon communities for children and youth to engage in active, healthy and fun activities,鈥 Recreation and Parks Association of the Yukon executive director Anne Morgan said.
