The 2013/14 Winter 9 Ball League wound up last Wednesday night with some surprising play and outcomes in the closing tournament.

Alex Grabowski shocked one and all by making short work of pre-tournament favourite Rob Sinclair in the A final, finishing him off with a golden break in the championship game.

A golden break occurs when the nine ball is potted on the first shot of the game.

When interviewed later, Grabowski was clearly overwhelmed by his success and dedicated his win "for Fox Lake鈥 鈥 which apparently holds a special place in his heart.

Sinclair, having been relegated to the B side of the tournament, went on to dominate this part of the draw, out-duelling another heavy favourite, Ed Lepp, in the B final.

The trickledown effect continued as Lepp, now toiling in the C side, went on to prevail over Barry Davidson in their final. It was an unbelievably close match, so close it could almost have been determined by the flip of a coin.

With the winter league behind them, many players indicated they would be back for the upcoming summer league which begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Porter Creek Billiards.

Players of all abilities are encouraged to come out and participate.
