The AFD Gravity Cup downhill mountain bike race is making its way to Whitehorse this weekend.
The summer series kicked off in Alberta in June and featured a special guest of
honour, Geoff Gulevich, one of the best freeriders in the world.
The Whitehorse event will take place at the Mount Sima Alpine Adventure Park this Saturday and Sunday.
The main downhill event will take place on Sunday and feature eight divisions, ranging from U-11 to Elite.
On Saturday night, Icycle Sport will be hosting a dirt jumping competition on a specially constructed course.
Mt. Sima will unveil their new downhill course, Lefty Loosey, and the guest of honour will be local freerider Dylan Sherrard, who is quickly rising to the top of the freeride world.
Sherrard will be riding with race participants on Saturday during practice and judging the Dirt Jump competition that evening.
Each course has been designed to challenge top-level riders but still be encouraging and for novice downhill racers.
The Mount Sima chairlift will be operational and transporting race participants and bikes to the new observation deck.
Riders will then depart on a five-minute adventure to the bottom of the hill.
The trail features a mix of fast, rocky and rooty sections.
A total of $5,000 will be awarded on race day.
In the Elite Men's category, the top finisher will take home $1,000 while second and third will collect $600 and $400.
