Great performances abound at Yukon Cup at Mount Sima

Great performances were the order of the days at Alpine Yukon鈥檚 2023 Yukon Cup.

Great performances were the order of the days at Alpine Yukon鈥檚 2023 Yukon Cup.

The competition was held Saturday and Sunday at Mount Sima. A giant slalom took place Saturday, followed by a slalom Sunday.

Master Aidan Mills finished first in the giant slalom on Saturday.

Young phenom Thomas Vollmer, 13, finished second overall and first in the U14 Men鈥檚 category.

鈥淚t went pretty good today,鈥 said Vollmer. 鈥淚 was pretty successful, I think. I won my age category and so far 鈥 I鈥檓 the second fastest male overall.鈥

Vollmer said it felt 鈥減retty nice鈥 to be on his home hill.

鈥淚鈥檝e been training here since I got back, for a couple of weeks. It was pretty good conditions today 鈥 as soon as we finished the snow came in.鈥

MacKenzie Jenner came in third overall and first in the U18 Men鈥檚.

Carson Nelson finished fifth overall and first among U16 Men.

Annie Heffner finished seventh overall and first in U18 Women鈥檚.

Grace Allaway captured first among U14 Women and 10th overall.

She said her day was 鈥済ood. My second run was way better than my first.鈥

Allaway was pretty happy with first in her category.

Allaway added it felt 鈥渞eally good鈥 to come back to her home hill. 鈥淚 really like Sima.鈥

Gregory Yurkiv came in first in the U12 men鈥檚 category and 12th overall.

Annie McNeill came in first among U16 Women and 17th overall.

鈥淚t was good,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 think I did good for GS. It鈥檚 not my best event but I think I skied pretty good.鈥

McNeill added 鈥淚 think I skied well and I鈥檓 happy with that and I got a good time.鈥

Erin Kohler was first among Master Women and 21st overall.

Alice Crete-Bergeron was first in U12 Women and 30th overall.

Catherine Yurkiv was first among U10 Women and 32nd overall.

Kai Hunter was first in U10 Men鈥檚 and 41st overall.

Loic Revel was first in U8 Men鈥檚 and 46th overall.

Ella Blattmann was first among U8 Women and 53rd overall.

Alpine Yukon Head Coach Urs Schirmer was happy with the day鈥檚 results.

鈥淚t went really well, actually. No incidents, nobody got hurt, everybody made it down and everybody, it looks like, is happy.鈥

Schirmer said conditions were 鈥渞eally good. We have a good relationship with the hill, so they groomed for us. We had a nice groomed hill and a closed run, so it was all perfect.鈥

Asked if anyone stood out for him, Schirmer replied 鈥淚 saw some good skiing but it鈥檚 racing, you know. Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win.鈥

Schirmer added he was happy with the level of the skiing.

鈥淭hrough the whole season I鈥檓 really impressed and I鈥檓 really happy with the performance of the Yukon ski team, even the development team and the Snow Stars, the little guys, our coaches did a really good job, so I hope they keep going and keep growing.鈥

In the slalom Sunday, Master Mills again topped the field.

In a repeat performance, Thomas Vollmer came in second overall and first in U14 Men鈥檚.

Ellyannn Dinn came in third overall and first in the Women鈥檚 U16 category after not finishing the GS on Saturday.

Nelson Carson came in first in U16 Men鈥檚 and fourth overall.

Annie Heffner finished first in U18 women鈥檚 and sixth overall.

Grace Allaway captured first in Women鈥檚 U14 and eighth overall.

Sebastian de Jager finished first in Men鈥檚 U12 and 14th overall.

Erin Kohler came in first in Women鈥檚 Masters and 18th overall.

Alice Crete-Bergeron grabbed first in Women鈥檚 U12 and 26th overall.

Henry Skelton captured first in Men鈥檚 U10 and 28th overall.

Catherine Yurkiv grabbed gold in Women鈥檚 U10 and 24th overall.

Ella Blattmann finished first in Women鈥檚 U8 and 43rd overall.

Elliot Crete-Bergeron got gold in the Men鈥檚 U8 and 49th overall.

Overall, the Fastest Female was Annie Heffner and the fastest male was Thomas Vollmer.

The Fastest Female Masters were Erin Kohler (Masters Open) & Anastaysia Matlashevska (Masters Program).

The Fastest Male Masters were Aidan Mills (Masters Open) & Pierre Richard (Masters Program).
