In the first race of the Yukon's new cycling season, Shea Hoffman showed he was already in fine form.

The 19-year-old sped to victory Wednesday night, taking the 17-km Carcross Corner Icebreaker Time Trial with a time of 28:17.
Geof Harries was second across the line in 29:19, followed by Phil Hoffman, Shea's father, in 30:52.
Trena Irving, head coach of the Whitehorse-based developmental club U Kon Echelon, was the top female cyclist, completing the race down the Alaska Highway in 31:58.
The event's youngest participant, 11-year-old Tristan Muir, finished in a respectable 35 minutes flat.
"What a way to finish off April, with a balmy time trial,鈥濃圛rving said in a statement to the Star. "Conditions were ideal for the first time trial of the season. Slight wind both ways, but sunny, low traffic, and fast.鈥
The event was the first of many events the club has planned for the season.
Irving said she is hoping to see many more cyclists take part in this season's events.
Upcoming events include the new Haines Junction 88 Road Race May 10, the Tour de Skagway May 17 to 18, the Yukon High School Bike Race May 21, and the North Klondike Time Trial May 28.
Other major races planned by the club include the Tour de Whitehorse June 11 to 14, Canada Day races July 1, the Jakes Corner Road race July 19 and the B.C. junior provincial bike championships in Courtney, B.C., June 7 and 8.
In running news, registration has begun for the Klondike Road Relay.
Race organizers unveiled a new website for the 2014 race yesterday at http://klondikeroadrelay.com.
This year, a new eight-person walking category has been added. Early-bird discounts apply in all categories for teams that register by July 18. Registration closes Aug. 22.
The 175-km race takes place Sept. 5 and 6, beginning in Skagway and finishing at the event's new beer garden at Rotary Park in Whitehorse.
