Huskies persevere to first Senior AA鈥圕hampionship title
Three years in,
Three years in, the Whitehorse Huskies captured the Coy Cup and the hearts of fans packed into Takhini Arena for BC Hockey Senior AA鈥檚 Championship final.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 why we play.鈥圱hat鈥檚 why we鈥檙e here. That鈥檚 why we work so hard all year and it鈥檚 kind of surreal right now that everything clicked,鈥� said Huskies captain Evan Campbell. 鈥淚鈥檓 so proud of everybody in the room.鈥�
Fielding a full bench, the Huskies welcomed back goalie Jon Olthuis, who suffered an apparent knee injury in their first round-robin game.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 think we could have made a wrong decision,鈥� said coach Mike鈥圱uton. 鈥淚 mean JJ could have been our MVP鈥坒or what he did during the week to get us here and the boys will never forget that.鈥�
Quelling a late comeback by the Kelowna Sparta in the third period, the Huskies celebrated the 7-4 win, piling on to Olthuis in the Huskies end.
They accepted their gold medals and took turns hoisting the Coy鈥圕up.
