The Whitehorse Huskies senior men鈥檚 team is scheduled to play their final series at home on the weekend of March 11 to determine if they鈥檒l move on to the Coy Cup.

Huskies head coach Michael Tuton explained this morning a scheduling development with the Ft. St. John team has resulted in a change in plans for the Whitehorse club.

As it stands now, the Huskies will play the winner of the Powell River Regals and the North Island Capitals of Port Hardy, he said.

Tuton explained the two Vancouver Island teams decided they would rather have the final series in Whitehorse because they don鈥檛 have the fan base Whitehorse has.

It may have been difficult for them to fulfill the financial obligation required to assist the visiting team with its expenses, he said.

鈥淭hey wanted us to go there but they do not get the crowds like we do,鈥� Tuton said.

鈥淭hey just did not want to take the risk.

鈥淎nd with the fan support we have been getting this year, which has been fantastic, we give ourselves a good chance of breaking even by getting them up here and we get ourselves a couple more good hockey games.鈥�

The match to see who moves onto the Coy Cup championship tournament in Terrace, B.C. will be the best out of three, Huskies general manager Matt King confirmed this morning.

He said there鈥檒l be a game Friday night, Saturday night and an afternoon game Sunday if necessary.

Tuton said the championship tournament will consist of the Terrace host team, Fort St. John with a bye, the winner of the B.C. Central League and whoever wins between the two Island teams and Whitehorse.

The Coy Cup is the prize for the best double AA senior men鈥檚 team in B.C.

The Huskies have played six games this season, all at home.

They split the two-game series with the Regals, defeated the Capitals in both games and split the two-game series with Whitecourt, Alta.
