Johnson shuts out oldtimer champs

Eugene Johnson secured the first shutout of his goaltending career – against the defending champs no less – backstopping Medicine Chest to a 4-0 win over Yukon Inn in Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey League action last night.

Eugene Johnson secured the first shutout of his goaltending career – against the defending champs no less – backstopping Medicine Chest to a 4-0 win over Yukon Inn in Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey League action last night.

While Johnson provided the saves, Blaine Monahan led the offence, scoring twice and adding one assist in the upset victory.

Sean Kinsella and Steve Arrell also scored in the victory.

In other oldtimer action, Glen Heinbigner scored twice and had two assists to lead the Firth Rangers over the Air North Jets 5-2. Brent Stokes also scored twice, with Joel Witten rounding out the scoring.

Dave White and Mike Jim scored for the Jets.

The Klondyke Dental Molars edged the AON Flames 5-4, thanks to a hat trick and two assists from Mike Gau, while Peter Johnston scored three goals of his own as Tim Hortons beat EDI 5-2.

AON continues to lead the league with a record of 8-3-1.
