Both Yukon rinks dropped their opening two games as the Dominion Curling Club Championship got underway yesterday in Scarborough, Ont.

Ray Mikkelsen's rink lost a tight match 6-4 to Steve Irwin's Manitoba rink this morning, after opening his tournament with an 8-1 loss to Dan Sherrard of Alberta last night.

Mikkelsen's Yukon rink includes his son Dustin at third, Scott Williamson at second, and Wade Kopan at lead.

The Yukon men's rink will face a familiar foe in Draw 5 this afternoon – Paul Delorey's N.W.T. rink.

On the women's stage, Jody Smallwood's rink dropped their first national match 8-4 to Norma Brown's Alberta rink last night.

Her rink battled hard today against Lori Pelissier's Manitoba rink, but ended up dropping the game 10-3 in seven ends.

They will battle Stacey Stabel's N.W.T. rink tonight.

Smallwood's Whitehorse-based team includes third Evelyn Pasichnyk, second Joan Ewing and lead Jari Smarch. A spare player from Ontario was scheduled to fill in for the injured Pasichnyk.

Both Yukon teams will face New Brunswick and B.C. tomorrow.
