Ray Mikkelsen's rink lost a tight match 6-4 to Steve Irwin's Manitoba rink this morning, after opening his tournament with an 8-1 loss to Dan Sherrard of Alberta last night.
Mikkelsen's Yukon rink includes his son Dustin at third, Scott Williamson at second, and Wade Kopan at lead.
The Yukon men's rink will face a familiar foe in Draw 5 this afternoon – Paul Delorey's N.W.T. rink.
On the women's stage, Jody Smallwood's rink dropped their first national match 8-4 to Norma Brown's Alberta rink last night.
Her rink battled hard today against Lori Pelissier's Manitoba rink, but ended up dropping the game 10-3 in seven ends.
They will battle Stacey Stabel's N.W.T. rink tonight.
Smallwood's Whitehorse-based team includes third Evelyn Pasichnyk, second Joan Ewing and lead Jari Smarch. A spare player from Ontario was scheduled to fill in for the injured Pasichnyk.
Both Yukon teams will face New Brunswick and B.C. tomorrow.

At the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Montreal, the Yukon has now lost six-straight matches after qualifying for the main draw.
This morning, the Yukon lost their sixth in a row, 9-5 at the hands of James Grattan's New Brunswick rink.
Last night, Steve Fecteau's rink lost to Cory Heggestad's 7-2 in seven ends, after dropping their afternoon match to Saskatchewan 11-5.
The Yukon will face Tom Buchy's B.C. rink tonight, and Robert Campbell's P.E.I. rink, and Mike Assad's Northern Ontario rink tomorrow.
