Medicine Chest wins nailbiter 5-4: hockey roundup

Mike Jim's second goal of the game stood up as the winner as Medicine Chest hung on to beat Klondyke Dental Motors 5-4 in a battle of the oldtimer cellar dwellers Wednesday night at Takhini Arena.

Mike Jim's second goal of the game stood up as the winner as Medicine Chest hung on to beat Klondyke Dental Motors 5-4 in a battle of the oldtimer cellar dwellers Wednesday night at Takhini Arena.

Goaltender Glen Traverse stood tall and withstood some late pressure from the Molars – including three second period goals – to preserve the win.

Jim, Marty O'Hagan, Jim Giczi and Blaine Demchuk scored in the first period to stake Medicine Chest to a 4-1 lead.

Brian Boorse, Greg Bull, Maxime Dugre-Sasseville and Paul Moore provided the scoring for the Molars.

Kilrich 6, Air North 2

Mike Knutson had three goals and an assist, and Walt Liley had a pair of goals and helpers to lead Kilrich to a 6-2 win over Air North.

Elgin Schwantz rounded out the scoring, while Brian Gudmundson also recorded a pair of assists.

Pat Campbell and Ron Cruikshank replied for Air North.

Kilrich 7, AON Flames 3

On Sunday, Peter Grundmanis scored a hat trick and added an assist as Kilrich trounced the AON Flames 7-3.

Elgin Schwartz added a pair of goals, while Regis St. Pierre and Tim Turner-Davis also scored.

Al Koehl scored twice for the Flames, while Shawn Kinsella had a goal and an assist.

Tim Hortons 4, Medicine Chest 2

Brent Stokes scored twice, and Kerry Pettitt and Blayne Monahan each had a goal and a helper in a 4-2 Tim Hortons win.

Blaine Demchuk and Gord Peterson replied for Medicine Chest.

In A division rec league action at Takhini Arena Monday, the Warriors downed

SLFS/Murphy Built by a score of 5-3.

Five different players found the back of the net for the Warriors - Derek Johnstone, Dennis Calbery, Shawn Kolak, Jesse Bowe and Ian Kuster.

Justin Quigley, Nathan Dumont and Shawn Whellan replied for SLFS.

Yukon Brewing Lead Dogs 8, Whitehorse Midget Mustangs 5

Derek Klassen scored twice and had two assists as Yukon Brewing beat up on the Midget Mustangs. Kirk Gale added a pair of goals, while Aaron Pettitt (1G, 2A), Luke Bicudo, Frank Aucoin and Tyler Wiens (1G, 1A) netted the others.

Alex Hanson had a pair for the Mustangs in a losing cause, while Mike Arnold (1G, 2A), Braeden Paun-Burnett and Jarrett Malchow rounded out the scoring.

B division rec league action this week saw Narrow Gauge down Envirolube 5-2 Monday at the Canada Games Centre.

Phil Mullen's goal and two assists led the way, while Fletcher deGraff (1G, 1A), Hector Lang, Ryan Sylvestre and Graeme Carruthers also scored in the win.

Eddy Oulton and Leroy Wolfe replied for Envirolube.

In C division action Sunday at the Canada Games Centre, the Kwanlin Kanucks beat Yukon Inn Boiler Room 4-2.

Glen Skookum had two goals and an assist to lead the Kanucks, while Ian Gage and Calvin Charlie also scored.

Scoring leader Harold Risby and Adam George scored for Yukon Inn.

Castle Rock 1, Bantam A Mustangs 1

Castle Rock's JM Sauve traded goals with Mustang Chance Goodman in a tightly-played 1-1 draw.
