Her first time competing in the Star 5 division, an Arctic Edge Skating Club athlete has earned a silver medal.

Sarah Milton was second in the Star 5 13-and-over group 2 division at the Vancouver Island Super Series. Skating to a classical waltz piece, the young skater also performed her first fully-rotated double in competition to earn a score of 14.98.

鈥淭his was a great performance for Sarah,鈥� said coach Trish Pettitt. 鈥淪he was very impressive. She鈥檚 worked hard for the whole season.鈥�

Milton finished 0.07 of a point ahead of teammate Lenneah Timmermans, who scored 14.91 for third.

鈥淟enneah skated a great program,鈥� said Pettitt.

She had a deduction on a spin element, but had 鈥渆xceptional鈥� speed and a great finish.

Madison Dartana, of the Grandview Skating Club in East Vancouver, was first with 15.95 points.

The other Arctic Edge skater to podium was Jamie Nickel, who was second in the U13 pre-juvenile women with a score of 19.73.

鈥淛amie had a really nice skate,鈥� said Pettitt. 鈥淪he was able to pull through and be right in focus where she needed to.

鈥淏est skate of the year for her.鈥�

Nickel was skating to a russian classical piece.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a piece that she connected with and I think that鈥檚 really important,鈥� said Pettitt.

Ten skaters competed in the event, which Arctic Edge Skating Club normally attends.

For three of them, it was their first Outside competition. Heidi Vallier, Kiona Vallier and Myla Turner competed in unranked events, which were judged to a standard.

Also competing from the club were: Anika Kramer, Chloe Van Lankveld, Bronwyn Hays and Alissa Russell.

鈥淔or the up-and-coming skaters, not only did they have a really good time, they also performed really well,鈥� said Pettitt.

For many of the skaters, it was their last competition of the season, but the club is having a test day at the end of the month, and a few may compete again over Victoria Day.

Pettitt said that the event is a 鈥済reat end of the year competition鈥� and is a good barometer to see how the skaters are doing compared to other clubs.

鈥淲e鈥檙e kind of isolated from a lot of other clubs,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e on track and our skaters are doing well.鈥�
