The Wolverines first nations hockey team are becoming a part of hockey history this coming Sunday, as they will film an introduction for CBC's Hockey Night in Canada to be aired before Sunday, Dec. 26th's NHL games.

The Wolverines will introduce Montreal at Toronto and Edmonton at Vancouver. Filming for the short segment will take place this Sunday at Takhini Arena before the Wolverines take on the Haines Junction pee wee team at 2:30 p.m.

Wolverines coach Randy Merkel isn't entirely sure what's going to go on Sunday. Hockey Night in Canada hasn't provided a lot of information, which has left the coach unsure, but excited for his team.

"It's pretty cool isn't it?鈥 Merkel said.

Merkel doesn't know if a local CBC crew will do the filming, or whether a crew from Outside will be coming in. He is also unsure of how long the introduction will be, or whether any special guests will be coming in to meet with the kids.

Merkel said that occasionally a celebrity comes in to do the introduction with the kids. Calgary captain Jarome Iginla has stopped by to help out before, but Merkel has no idea what to expect.

"You never know, something like that might happen,鈥 Merkel said.

The team was selected by Hockey Night in Canada when a parent wrote in.

"She just fired a one liner, (saying) we're interested,鈥 Merkel said. "Low and behold, we're gonna do this.鈥

Twenty-five teams get chosen for the honour out of hundreds that apply.

The Wolverines will meet at the rink ahead of their game to learn their dialogue with the CBC film crew.

They will have their photos taken, which will be added to Hockey Night in Canada's website. The shoot will possibly take place in the locker room, Merkel said.

"Whatever they decide, we do,鈥 Merkel said.

Scotiabank has set up a pizza party for the Wolverines at Boston Pizza on the 26th to see the finished product that will air at 3:30 p.m.
