Whitehorse golfer Phil Mullin notched his sixth Yukon golf title over the weekend, shooting a combined two-round total score of 151 to edge Blaine Tessier for the victory.

The 2013 Yukon Golf Championships were held at Mountain View Golf Club.

"It was a good tournament,鈥� said Mountain View golf pro Jeff Wiggins. "The conditions were great. Were there any surprises? No, there wasn't. Really the three that should've qualified for the Canadian amateur were the three that were the favourites.鈥�

Mullin, Tessier, and Dan King qualified for the 2013 Canadian Men's Amateur Championships taking place August 6 to 9 at the Royal Colwood Golf Club and Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria, B.C.

Ron Kulych will serve as first alternate player.

Wiggins said competition proved to be fierce between Mullin, Tessier, King and Landon Kulych.

"Those guys were pretty much battling it out right to hole 17,鈥� he said. "I didn't even think they knew amongst the four of them who was actually winning until the end.鈥�

Originally, Mullin and Tessier thought they would have to continue with a playoff, but a correction on Mullin's score on hole 16 revealed the 29-year-old had won his sixth territorial title.

Mullin could not be reached for comment this morning.

Women's champion Nicole Baldwin fired an 81 in her first round, setting her up nicely for a title run over her two opponents, while senior player Ron Moore shot an 81 in his second round Sunday, which included a double bogey on hole 18.

"He had a chance to break 80, and that would've been phenomenal,鈥� said Wiggins.

The local amateur golf championship featured 54 golfers.
