The summer version of the local mushing series got underway Saturday night with three races taking place.
The event was held following the organization's annual general meeting at Mike and Jessica Simon's home on the Mayo Road.
After hashing out a new board, the fun got underway with a two-mile, two-dog bikejor competition, a one-mile, one-dog bikejor race, and a one-mile, one-dog canicross event.
Cynthia Corriveau won the two-mile event in a time of 8.02, beating Adam Robinson by 14 seconds. Darryl Sheepway placed third with a time of 8.50.
"In the winter, I'm often second, so in the summer it feels good to again be No. 1,鈥 Corriveau told the Star. "It's a lot of fun.鈥
The longtime skijorer said the race was somewhat of a trial run for her, as she was racing behind one of her inexperienced puppies.
"She was good. Very, very good,鈥濃圕orriveau said of her young dog's performance.
Meanwhile, Sheepway earned victory in the one-mile bikejor event, crossing the finish line in 4.20.
Corriveau and Jean-Marc Champeval finished tied for second with a time of 4.58.
In the one-mile canicross event, Virginia Sarrazin placed first with a time of 6.12.
"Basically, you attach the dog to yourself and you run, and you try to keep up behind the dog,鈥濃圕orriveau explained.
"For a short distance like that, it's pretty crazy.鈥
Katherine Sheepway finished second in 6.19 with Adam Robinson rounding out the top three with a time of 6.54.
Racers left the start chute on one-minute intervals.
"We had a great turnout,鈥 said Corriveau, who will also serve as the board treasurer this year. "It was great to see everyone.
"Mike and Jessica always host a very organized meet with a technical but fun trail.鈥
Corriveau said along with new board members comes a lot of interest to host races this summer.
"I think we're going to have one every month at a different location,鈥 she said.
"The summer is a rest for the dogs because it's hot, but this helps to just get them out,鈥濃圕orriveau said of the Hot Hounds series. "It's also a chance to start puppies and get them experience.鈥
