More than 800 hockey players on 42 teams are expected to participate in the 36th annual Kilrich/Northerm Yukon Native Hockey Tournament this weekend in Whitehorse.
This year's tournament, which will be held at Takhini Arena and the Canada Games Centre, marks the fifth consecutive year that Kilrich Industries Ltd. and Northerm Windows and Doors have partnered with the Yukon Indian Hockey Association (YIHA) as the event's title sponsors.
"We are very proud to sponsor this important community event,鈥 said Northerm general manager Rick Gingell, before suggesting the tournament injects close to $1 million into the community.
"This tournament is a significant economic driver for Whitehorse in addition to helping support the hockey aspirations of players from across the territory and beyond,鈥 added Kilrich Industries president Rob Fordham.
