Tickets for the NHL charity game scheduled for Wednesday night in Whitehorse went on sale this weekend at Sport Yukon.
The lineup for tickets was backed all the way into the neighbouring High Country Inn, said Marlene Jennings, communications director for the Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association.
"Saturday morning was crazy,鈥 she told the Star. "Volunteers sold 750 tickets in an hour, and ticket sales were solid until 1 p.m.鈥
About 1,000 tickets were sold on Saturday alone. Ticket sellers received phone calls from Old Crow, Watson Lake, Haines Junction, Mayo, Teslin, Pelly, Ross River, Burwash Landing and Dawson City.
One Yukoner in Inuvik even called in to purchase his tickets.
There are still 400 tickets available for the game. They are available at both Sport Yukon and Sportslife in the Hougen Centre. Sport Yukon is only accepting cash, while Sportslife will accept credit and debit card purchases. The limit on ticket purchases has now been removed.
"We are hoping to encourage teams or larger groups to attend by removing the maximum purchase,鈥 Jennings explained.
The northern charity tour kicked off yesterday in Yellowknife, N.W.T. The players will spend today in Deline, before lacing up in Inuvik tomorrow and Whitehorse Wednesday. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Takhini Arena.
NHL players on the tour include: Jordin Tootoo, Chris Neil, Chris Phillips, Zach Smith, Peter Regin, Guillaume Latendresse, Jim Slater, Marc Methot, Grant Clitsome and Craig Anderson.
