GOOD FORM 鈥 Yukoner Brooke Nielsen competes with 鈥楤laze on Kodiak' in a show jumping event last weekend.
Equestrian show jumper Brooke Nielsen represented the Yukon last weekend at the three-day Canadian Interprovincial Championships.
Equestrian show jumper Brooke Nielsen represented the Yukon last weekend at the three-day Canadian Interprovincial Championships.
The event was held at the Rocky Mountain Show Jumping facility in Calgary from Sept. 13 to 15.
Nielsen and her horse 鈥楤laze on Kodiak' took home a sportsmanship medal for their performance in the senior jumping category.
The 21-year-old was the only Yukon rider to compete. Her mother, Maureen, served as the Yukon's chef d'equipe.
Brooke is currently in her first year at Red Deer College, studying sociology and psychology.
"Both Brooke and I were really pleased with the whole experience,鈥 Maureen said. "It truly was fabulous. The team spirit and friendliness was apparent 鈥 the event was well-run and held at such a beautiful facility.
"Brooke was very proud to be representing the Yukon and I tried my best by wearing the team jacket all five days in the sweltering heat.鈥
Sixty-one riders competed in the third annual interprovincial championships. Federal Minister of State (Sport) Bal Gosal handed out the individual and team medals.
Alberta's consistency across all three disciplines of dressage, reining and jumping earned the province the coveted Team Cup.
Ontario finished second, while Quebec and Saskatchewan tied for third.
