All Canadians are encouraged to nominate their sport heroes for induction into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the highest sporting honour in the country.

In celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame would like to celebrate teams that have helped shape Canada's sport history as well as individuals.

Teams are defined as two or more athletes who have achieved an outstanding athletic accomplishment.

All forms must be completed by Jan. 15, 2017 to be considered for the Class of 2017. Nomination forms and additional information are available at www.sportshall.ca.

The Class of 2017 inductees will be announced in April 2017.

Last year鈥檚 class of 2016 inductees included 19-time Paralympic medallist Stephanie Dixon. The now-retired swimmer calls Whitehorse home and coaches with the masters swim team as well as offering personal training services.

鈥淚鈥檓 very proud and very grateful,鈥 Dixon told the Star of her induction. 鈥淚t鈥檚 such an incredible opportunity to get to know these six individuals and we鈥檝e kind of become a little family to share our story about sport and retirement and life in general.鈥

Dixon鈥檚 class included a football player, the founder of Special Olympics, a cross-country skier and paddler, a curler, a speedskater, and a hockey player.
