John the Mailman MacPhail delivers again

John MacPhail, a legend of Yukon soccer, showed that speed and fitness is no substitute for experience, as he led his Klondike Business Solutions side to a 5-2 win over Pepsi in over 35 soccer action last weekend.

MacPhail carries not only mail, but the hopes and dreams of his team on his shoulders, producing a goal and a display to please the purists.

Travis Schommer continued his good form with another goal, and English boys Jim Brown and Andy Todd (2) weighed in with the other goals for KBS.

Canadian idol applicant Danny Macdonald looked jaded after a hard night on stage, so it was left to JP Ladroue to lead the line and he got two goals for Pepsi in reply.

Accidental hero Barker makes the difference

Tony鈥檚 Pizzeria maintained their lead in the league with a 3-2 win over Yukon Brewing, and was indebted to Gord Barker鈥檚 knee to keep their unbeaten run alive.

Barker鈥檚 wholehearted display was rewarded with what turned out to be the winning goal for the Pizza boys.

Looking very fetching in their new team jerseys, Tony鈥檚 Pizzeria powered to a 3-0 advantage thanks to Barker, Eric Murphy and hotshot skipper Keith Maguire, who scored his third in as many games.

Tony鈥檚 Pizzeria was pegged back by some enthusiastic tackles and a never say never attitude from Yukon Brewing, as they nearly pulled off a tremendous recovery when Jeff Ford and David Rayo scored in the second half to make for a nail-biting finale.

NOTES: After 10 games, Tony鈥檚 Pizzeria leads the over 35 soccer league 7-1-2.

Yukon鈥圔rewing is second with 5-3-2.

In third is Klondike Business Solutions with a record of 3-2-5.

Pepsi brings up the rear with 1-2-7.

There are no games this weekend. Play returns Dec. 10 when KBS takes on Yukon Brewing at 9 a.m., while Pepsi and Tony鈥檚 Pizzeria face off in the late game at 10:15 a.m.
