After a weekend of playing ball, a handful of teams walked away with hardware.
After a weekend of playing ball, a handful of teams walked away with hardware.
P&M Recycling beat out Dave鈥檚 Cleaning Crew in a lopsided 17-10 win at the Pepsi Softball Centre Saturday afternoon.
P&M Recyling got off to an early lead and stayed strong throughout the game, even as Dave鈥檚 Cleaning Crew mounted a comeback campaign late in the game.
鈥淥ur team was fantastic,鈥 said P&M Recycling coach Craig Dempsey. 鈥淏atting has really improved over the season. They really came through and made some big plays.鈥
Dempsey鈥檚 team had a mix of experience out on the field.
鈥淲e had a great bunch of ball players, a number have been playing for a number of years and some that haven鈥檛 played at all,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hey fit into the team nicely.鈥
Clutch catches from both P&M鈥圧ecycling and Dave鈥檚 Cleaning Crew鈥檚 back catchers highlighted the U14 game.
All teams exhibited superior sportsmanship during the tournament, an umpire remarked as the U14 teams received their gold and silver medals. Coaches joked back and forth as they coached on first and third base with the bench.
鈥淕ood sportsmanship,鈥 said Dempsey. 鈥淭he weekend was fantastic.鈥圱he teams all played really well.鈥
As the U14 teams battled it out on diamond one, the U12 teams of Office Supply Centre and Emco Corp. fought for gold on diamond three.
Office Supply Centre took home the win.
Eight teams competed in the minor softball territorial championships.
On the U12 side, bronze went to Marsh Lake Tents & Events, while M & M Food Market was fourth.
In the U14 category, Yukon College picked up bronze while Arctic Backhoe Services was fourth.
