Whitehorse's Ian Parker earned a hard-fought victory in the Tour de Skagway this weekend, winning two of three events put on by the U Kon Echelon cycling group.
The Tour de Skagway consisted of three events, including an 81-km race from Fraser to the Yukon/B.C. border, a 20-km Skagway Hill Climb, and a 21-km time trial near the Canadian customs office.
Parker won the first two events, battling headwinds to edge rival Aaron Foos by four seconds in the 81-km race Saturday.
He followed that up with a win in the hill climb Sunday morning, besting Skagway's Spencer Morgan by 18 seconds to win the expert category.
Morgan would get his revenge, however, by beating Parker in the 21-km time trial. Morgan finished in 41:57, while it took Parker 43:46.
Trena Irving was the sole rider in the tour's expert women's class.
Tonight, the cycling club will be back at it, hosting a mountain bike race for high school students at the Takhini Hot Springs. The race will begin at 4 p.m. near the climbing wall.
Then at 6 p.m., a road bike race will see cyclists leave the Yukon Wildlife Preserve travelling to Takhini Gas, and return.
