Bronwyn Pasloski was unable to squeak onto Canada's swim team bound for the Commonwealth Games, despite an impressive performance at the Canadian swim trials.
The event was held in Victoria, B.C. last weekend, with Pasloski swimming three different lengths of the breast stroke.
In her races, the Whitehorse swimmer finished second in the 100-metre, third in the 50-metre, and eighth in the 200-metre.
"It was a really good meet for me,鈥 the 21-year-old told the Star this week. "I wish I could have given it a little bit more in my 100 breast stroke ... but I can't really complain.鈥
She said her race times did not match the formula needed to crack the Commonwealth Games roster. The 2014 international, multi-sport tournament will take place in Glasgow, Scotland this summer.
Pasloski had just a week to prepare for the meet, after competing in her final NCAA championships with the Indiana Hoosiers in late March in Minneapolis, Minn.
She ended her NCAA career in style, setting a new school record in the 100 breast stroke.
"I literally left it for the last opportunity ever,鈥 she laughed. "I actually broke the school record by .01 of a second, which is barely anything. But that's something that I really wanted to do. I wanted to have my name up there by itself, not just on a relay.鈥
In Victoria, Pasloski went from swimming short-course yards to long-course metres 鈥 a change she described as difficult. Regardless, the swimmer feels like she's finally coming into her own.
"Things are starting to come together for me now, which is really awesome,鈥 she said. "In this past year and a half, I've started to see great improvements in myself. I feel like I'm finally getting on the right track with my training.
"I鈥坱hink this is just the beginning of me starting to get faster.鈥
Pasloski will return to Indiana for a fifth year this fall to complete her studies in kinesiology.
