Two Whitehorse players have been named to Northern B.C.'s top midget team.
Riley Pettitt and Kole Comin were announced as two of the 20 players selected to the final roster for the Prince George Cariboo Cougars today.
Pettitt, 16, returns to the team after scoring four goals and five assists before seeing his season cut short due to injury.
Comin played for the Midget A Mustangs in Whitehorse last season. The 15-year-old is currently recovering from a concussion he suffered in the Cougars' final exhibition game this pre-season.
Head coach Bryan MacLean told the Star that Comin impressed Cougars' brass in their two training camps.
"He's a good-sized kid who is really smart with good hockey sense,鈥 MacLean said. "He's learned a lot over the past few weeks in camp. When you teach him, he will go out and do it on the ice.
"We see a lot of potential in the way he's going to grow as a hockey player.鈥
Comin is expected to be a regular in the lineup.
Pettitt, meanwhile, is expected to play a leadership role this season.
"We expect to see some growth from last year,鈥 MacLean said. "He was starting to show some things last year before he got hurt.
"For him this year, it's about coming in and for one, staying healthy, and being a leader in the dressing room. Hopefully, he's able to chip in offensively.鈥
The Cariboo Cougars are one of 11 teams in the British Columbia Major Midget League.
The club will begin its regular season Sept. 28 on the road versus the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
