Riley Pettitt and Tyson Glass have joined the team after spending their seasons playing outside the territory.
After five games, Pettitt is leading the team in scoring with five goals and four assists, including two helpers in a 5-1 win over SouthPaw/Rednex last night.
Pettitt spent the season with the Prince George Cariboo Cougars before suffering a knee injury in January. Two weeks ago, he received medical clearance to return to the ice and has been playing for his father, coach Kerry Pettitt, since then.
Glass has three goals and two assists in four games since joining the Mustangs following his season with the Jr. B Grand Forks Border Bruins.
"They have been a great addition to the lineup as I have lost seven players to spring break holidays,鈥 Kerry Pettitt told the Star. "I plan to keep them in our rec lineup until the end of the season.鈥
The Mustangs will head to the provincial championships in Port Alberni, B.C. this weekend without their new additions, however.
The club will face rec hockey's top team, the Air North Jets in a friendly exhibition Wednesday to prepare for their biggest tournament of the year.
The rec league playoffs are now underway in all three divisions. Each division plays a full round robin and the top two teams in each division will square off in a best of three series to determine a champion.
The regular season standings are not taken into account, said Kinden Kosick, vice-president of the Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League.
In action last night, the Mustangs downed SouthPaw/Rednex 5-1 on goals by Jamie Tetlichi, Glass and Matt McCarthy. Alex Hanson scored two, including an empty-net goal.
Cam MacKinnon replied for SouthPaw/Rednex.
After finishing the regular season in last, the Mustangs now sit in third place in the playoff standings, with a record of 2-2-1. New Age Drilling and Air North are ranked one and two.
In B division playoff action last night, Fountain Tire edged the Dirty Northern Muckers 4-3 on a goal by Chad Thomas.
Jeff Pike, Chris Thomas and Kris King had the other goals for Fountain Tire, while Kevin MacGillivray, Travis Park and Colin Nickerson replied for the Muckers.
Fountain Tire improved to 2-1, while the Muckers dropped to 0-2.
