The Whitehorse Women's Basketball League wrapped up its 2013-14 season in late March with a tight game between The Roadhouse and Physio Plus.
With help from a few additional players from the Kopper Kweens, Physio Plus came out on top in the tightly defensive game, winning 33-27.
There are four teams in the women's basketball league, a competitive league that plays from October to March.
Diedre Davidson, league president and Physio Plus captain, said the final was exciting despite the low score.
"It was a tight game,鈥 she said. "We had a few injuries and players out of town for spring break so we picked up some extra players.
"It was a battle. We play each other all year long and typically it's a really, relaxed fun group. But at playoffs, people bring their A games ... it gets pretty competitive.鈥
Physio Plus's high scorer in the final was one of the pinch-hitting players brought in from another team.
Mubo Ilelaboye pitched in 17 points to help Physio Plus get the win although she normally suits up with the Kopper Kweens.
Ilelaboye is a new addition to the league this year and Davidson said her skill and athleticism increased the level of competition overall.
A former CIS 麻豆社区with the University of Manitoba Bisons, the five-foot-11 forward is strong in the lane but also deadly from beyond the arc.
Ilelaboye was the league high scorer, averaging 17.7 points per game.
Sarah Crane led the Roadhouse in the final with 18 points.
"We had a great season,鈥 she said. "It was really exciting to see so many new faces at the beginning of the year. It bodes well for the future of our league.
"I hope we can keep building the league and increasing the level of competition and, of course, have fun.鈥
Although the games throughout the season were tight, the final standings of league play saw Physio Plus on top, followed by the Roadhouse, Kopper Kweens and Alpine Bra.
Davidson said the league continues to be a strong one, and she thanked the team sponsors for their contribution.
"We had a number of new sponsors on board this year and their support makes our league possible,鈥 she said. "Thank you to Physio Plus, the Roadhouse, Kopper King and Alpine Bra.鈥
Last year, Drift Geomatics beat Takhini Gas 53-17 to claim the women's hardcourt championship.
