The F.H. Collins Warriors made it close, but a late run by the Porter Creek Rams sealed a 41-30 championship victory for the junior varsity girls Friday afternoon in Porter Creek.
Down 30-16 early in the third quarter, the Warriors went on a late run to bring the score to within five, 33-28.
But the Rams, led by tournament MVP Hannah Milner's 19 points, rediscovered their game in time, and went on a late run to win gold.
"It was really exciting,鈥 the 15-year-old told the Star post-game. "It means a lot.鈥
Milner said her team struggled to start the season, but gelled in time for the Yukon Championship.
"We learned to bond with each other,鈥 the Grade 10 student explained. "I think everyone gave the best ability that they can.鈥
Jacy Sam scored nine points, and Karyin Qui chipped in eight for the Warriors in the loss. Both were named tournament all-stars.
"I'm super proud of my girls,鈥 said Warriors coach Tyler Bradford. "They played with a ton of tenacity and heart. We missed a few easy shots around the basket that could've maybe turned the game the other way, but that's how it goes. They played all out the whole game.鈥
Rams coach Nicole Cross said hard work paid off for her team.
"The girls worked hard all year long,鈥 she said after the victory. "We felt that although all of our games have been very tight, we definitely hoped to push for the win.鈥
"Our season got off to a bit of a tricky start,鈥 added assistant coach Kasia Leary. "We had to figure out the number of girls we were going to have in senior and junior.
Once we got into a rhythm in practice, we noticed a difference in games. It came together pretty quickly.鈥
Other tournament all-stars included Delaney Paul (Porter Creek), Justice Billyr (Carmacks) and Kelly Mahoney (Vanier).

It was an incredible game.. we all played our hardest, and had one hell of a game. F.H. was amazing, I gotta hand it to them.
Hopefully next season will be just as amazing!!
