Red light working overtime in men's rec hockey playoffs

Three SouthPaw/Rednex players combined for 29 points as the Rec A hockey team survived a 14-10 shootout over the New Age Warriors in playoff action last night.

Three SouthPaw/Rednex players combined for 29 points as the Rec A hockey team survived a 14-10 shootout over the New Age Warriors in playoff action last night.

Spencer Tomlin scored six goals and added five assists, Owen MacKinnon scored four times with five assists, and Clayton Thomas netted a hat trick alongside six assists in a game that was a goalscorer's dream.

Logan Freese added a goal and assist in the win, while Brynn Battersby picked up three assists.

It was the first win in five playoff games for SouthPaw/Rednex and only the second loss in six games for New Age.

James Blake led the way for the Warriors with two goals and two assists, while both James Day and Derek Johnstone had a pair of goals and an assist. Dan Cletheroe and Ian Kuster both had a goal and two assists, while Chris Vance picked up one of each. Morris Morrison rounded out the scoring with a single.

Bryden Cook had four assists, while Jamie Edzerza and Shawn Roberts each had three.

Despite the loss, New Age still sits atop the round robin playoff standings with a 4-2 record. Air North is second with a 3-0 record, while the Midget A Mustangs are in third at 2-2-1.

The top two teams following the playoff round robin will face off in a best-of-three series to determine the season champion.

In last night's other Rec A matchup, Murphy Built edged Roadhouse 6-5 to pull even with their rivals for fourth overall in playoff standings.

Skyler Hougen scored five goals and Justin Quigley had a goal and an assist to help Murphy Built top Roadhouse. Brian Douglas had three assists, while Shane McHugh and Shawn Whellan each had a pair.

Ryan Hodgins scored twice and added an assist for Roadhouse. Ed Long also scored a pair, and Clint Teichrobe added a late goal. Tim McIntosh had three assists.
