The Rendezvous Society is organizing its first golf tournament.
鈥淲e did a poll of the membership of the Rendezvous Society and the way it came back was that everybody likes golf, it鈥檚 a fun time,鈥 Adam Easton, producer of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous, explained in an interview Wednesday. 鈥淪o we are going to try and throw a little tournament on and help bring the festival together for 2017.
鈥淲e鈥檒l have the Rendezvous queen out there, the can can dancers and the game itself will be a scramble and a shotgun start.鈥
The tournament is scheduled for May 27 at the Mountainview Golf Course.
Easton said there鈥檒l be prizes for longest drive, shortest drive, closest to the pin, and most sportsmanlike team.
鈥淭he idea is we want people, even if you鈥檙e not a good golfer like myself, to go out there and have fun.鈥
Easton said the tournament will be nine holes, and includes a meal and entertainment. There鈥檚 room for 18 teams of four at $400 a team. Individuals who don鈥檛 have a team but want to participate can sign up and organizers will match them with other singles.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a little bit of fun, and it鈥檚 also to help put a little money back into the society so we can produce the festival for 2017,鈥 Easton said.
There also the opportunity to purchase a share in the title name of the tournament for $2,500, as well opportunities for businesses to sponsor individual holes at $500 each.
Sponsors will have banners with their names placed at the holes they sponsor.
Easton said organizers are also in discussions with Investors Group Financial Services regarding the possibility of having a $5,000 hole-in-one prize.
The hole-in-one event will also provide participants with an opportunity to enter a national draw sponsored by Investors Group to attend next years Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta, Florida, he said.
