GOING CROSS COUNTRY – Sunday’s motorcross motorcycle race held at the Schirmer Family Ranch attracted 56 riders of all ages.
The Yukon Cross Country Motorcycle Association held their second race of the season Sunday at the Schirmer Family Ranch – the Mosquito Harescramble I.
The Yukon Cross Country Motorcycle Association held their second race of the season Sunday at the Schirmer Family Ranch – the Mosquito Harescramble I.
The race was attended by many local riders as well as some from Alberta and B.C., and attracted many spectators.
A Harescramble is off-road motorcycle racing, enduro racing, through single track and open trail on the B Loop, with A riders travelling along more difficult technical trail on the A Loop which included logs, rocks and hills. For Sunday, an additional expert AA Loop was added for those riders looking for a more physically demanding and technical challenge.
The more difficult expert AA class ended up with a three-way tie for third place. The three riders – Tony Watson, Neil Ryckman and Travis Adams – displayed true sportsmanship when, after helping each other through some very difficult terrain, they decided to cross the finish line together. These riders proved that it’s not all about winning, it’s more about the adventure and camaraderie.
There were classes for the whole family from kids to expert riders.
The results were as follows:
• Mini: 1. Brent McNeil 2. Sam Adams
• Junior Under 15 (1 hr B loop): 1. Brent McNeil 2. Evan Arnold
• Junior Over 15 (1 hr B loop): 1. Cole Beaman 2. Broden Cull 3. Saul Gale
• Novice (1 hr B Loop): 1. Chris Lane Jr. 2. Emma Barr 3. Mike Murphy
• Intermediate (2 hr B loop): 1. Jarrid Davy 2. Gary Rusnak
